Text Neck

Text neck refers to pain caused by texting. It starts in the neck and upper back. Text neck is becoming a growing problem because many people, including children, are constantly using smartphones, iPads, and other handheld devices. Most are looking down at their devices when this is happening. Bad posture is a primary cause of text neck. People usually don’t become aware that something is wrong until they start experiencing headaches and neck pain. Other symptoms can include breathing issues, sinus problems, fatigue, high blood pressure, and disc degeneration. The nerves most affected by text neck will be in the cervical spine and upper back. Chiropractors are well versed in dealing with text necks.

The number one cause of text neck is bad posture. The human head weighs an average of 10-12 pounds, but the further you lean your head forward and down, the greater the stress you place on your neck and upper spine. When your head is angled down at 30 degrees it is like having a 40-pound head, and by the time your head is bent down at a 60 degree angle the weight of your head is equivalent to 60 pounds. Please call 860-621-2225 to schedule an appointment for chiropractic care. We are located at 200 Queen Street, Southington.M.

P.S. Lifting smartphones, iPads, and other hand-held devices to a higher position is one way to reduce pressure on the neck.
