“Fibromyalgia” is a chronic pain condition characterized by widespread pain of at least three months’ duration, both above and below the waist, and including both sides of the body. The primary characteristic of the condition’s deep aching, radiating, or burning pain is that it occurs at “tender points” (myofascial trigger points). Ninety percent of fibromyalgia patients are also afflicted with chronic fatigue, which brings additional symptoms of malaise, dizziness, numbness and tingling, swollen feeling in tissues, and stiffness. While treatments vary, at least one study involving 55 women with fibromyalgia ages 21-59 years shows that regular chiropractic care helped patients to better adhere to strength-training programs that helped to east the pain of fibromyalgia.
